Welcome to Access Ability, a program designed to help small and medium businesses in Atlantic Canada hire individuals living with disabilities. We offer a wage subsidy to eligible employers, covering $9 per hour, for up to 700 hours of a work placement. Program Requirements
Small to medium sized business
700-hour work placement (full-time or part-time)
Open position that is not in dispute/was not a lay-off
Employer is willing to bring on employee permanently after placement term
The work placement is up to 700 hours long. It is up to the Employer and the Participants to decide how many hours per week.
Do I need to put the participant on the payroll?
Yes, in order to receive the subsidy we will need proof of payment through a paystub.
Do I have to keep the participant on after the placement?
The program’s objective is to assist participants in securing lasting jobs that match their skills and qualifications. Employers who hire participants should be committed to retaining them after the program concludes.
Is Access Ability just for Saint Mary’s Students?
The program is for anyone who self–identifies as living with a disability in Atlantic Canada.
