What is the Ignition Program:
The Ignition Program offers post-secondary students a 10-week program that gives access to training, mentorship, resources, ecosystem connections; and honorariums to support personal and business development. Students will be awarded $10 for each session they engage with!
What’s in this session:
The idea of 'community' gets talked about a lot, but if you don't have your own personal meaning attached, it can be something that happens TO you, rather than something you can actively develop to create a rich, nourishing, professional and personal life. What communities are you part of? What binds you together? Are you a leader in your community? Why or why not? By answering some of these questions, you can begin to take a more active role in engaging with community to make deeper connections that can help you reach your goals.
What you will get from this session is an exploration of your own identity and community, how to strengthen relationships within communities and how to start communities of your own.
Whether you want to work on community engagement for personal or professional reasons, this session will workout the muscles needed to make your world a more connected and supportive place!
Speaker's Bio:
Laura Simpson works in service of executing big visions and creating more connected communities through art, business and technology.
Starting with her love of live music, she found her way into shows as a photographer, eventually leading to a stint as a music journalist that turned into a degree in journalism, followed by seven years as a print and radio journalist. She found her way back to music, supporting musicians as a funding and export officer at a music non-profit. In 2015, she took a sabbatical from her life and went to LA to mentor with a music company. When she returned, she launched three ventures - an artist services company (The Syrup Factory), a platform to help musicians book and ticket their shows (Side Door) and an unplugged camp retreat (Make.Do.Camp.). All three experienced varying levels of success, but her platform survived the longest, creating 3300 shows globally.
