Options Youth

 

Options Youth is a federally funded program that is facilitated by the Arthur L. Irving Entrepreneurship Centre. This program is intended to assist youth in developing the skills and gaining the experience they need to successfully transition into the labour market.

Options Youth provides an opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and networks through education, training and meaningful work experiences. This program provides guidance, individualized training and mentorship to participants.

Options Youth Incubator- Black Nova Scotian cohort

What is it:

This cohort is exclusively for Youth who identify as Black and are living in Nova Scotia.

  • January 26 – April 26, 2026 – The program’s session duration is one and a half hours (two days a week).
  • 13-week, paid, full-time program designed to help participants build skills, confidence, and practical experience to support their transition into the labour market (including self-employment pathways).
  • Participants receive ongoing training, support and mentorship.
  • Participants are paid full-time wage for 13 weeks.
  • All programming delivered online through ZOOM.
  • Only 15 spots available.

Eligibility:

An eligible participant is an individual who is:

    • Youth who identify as Black and are living in Nova Scotia
    • Between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of the program.
    • A Canadian citizen, or permanent resident or a protected person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
    • Legally entitled to work in Canada; and legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Priority will be given to applicants who: live with a disability, identify as part of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, reside in rural or remote regions, or identify as part of another equity deserving group.     

Do I need to pay?

The program is free. We pay you, so you can attend the training sessions.

Yes. We will review applications and interview potential participants for acceptance into the program.

You can come at any stage, whether you have an idea or are already operating your business!   

During the speaker series you can work a full or part time job, being mindful of your availability around event times, which will be scheduled on weekday evenings.  If you are accepted into the business incubator, the expectation is that you will devote your working hours to your business, while receiving financial support to do so. 

What is it:

  • Intended for individuals looking to start and develop their own business. 
  • Participants receive ongoing training, support and mentorship to assist in their business development and launch. 
  • Participants are paid full-time wage for 14 weeks 
  • All programming delivered online through ZOOM
  • Only 10 spots available

  • Get paid for expanding your knowledge 
  • Access to support and resources for your business 
  • Flexible online sessions
  • Intended for individuals looking to start and develop their own business.

An eligible participant is an individual who is: 

  • Between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of the program;
